The return of The Avengers also brought about the return of Avengers annuals – The New Avengers to be precise.
The first annual came out in the autumn of 1977. [Called the 1978 Annual as it is intended for the following christmas stocking filler market.]
This first annual is quite common and can be found quite cheaply on ebay usually.
The 1979 Annual however must have been produced in fewer quantities as it doesn’t turn up as often, and when it does it can go for £8 to £10.
On the cover of this second annual, Steed appears to be sneaking one out, Purdey has obviously noticed and Gambit appears to be thinking, « Sly old dog! »
The two comic strips in here were ‘retellings’ of two television episodes, The Midas Touch and The Return Of The Cybernauts.
Renamed ‘Midas Secret’ and ‘The Cybernauts’.
The spines on this second annual was glued, which makes reading the text at the edges a little difficult. I have recreated the missing text, cloning letters from nearby. This would have been posted last night, but I had to have a little conflab with another fellow with the book to find out what one speech bubble said.
And I didn’t know that Frank Boff used to moonlight from morning television too?!
